About This Position

The Zhu Lab in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University seeks a postdoctoral fellow to investigate host defense mechanisms and pathogen adaptation within host cells, focusing on how Guanylate Binding Protein 1 (GBP1) recognizes and destroys intracellular bacterial pathogens. Work uses cryo-electron tomography and cryo-correlative light and electron microscopy on a Titan Krios, including sample preparation, data collection, and subtomogram averaging, alongside in vitro reconstitution, protein purification, and mammalian cell/bacterial assays. Requires a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, or a related field; cryo-EM experience is preferred but not required. Initial one-year appointment with possible renewal.
