Job Description
About the Team
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our System Architecture and Validation team plays a key role in developing advanced electron microscopy solutions, including Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) and Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopes (FIB-SEM).
As part of our Research and Development organization, we bring together expertise across hardware, software and engineering to create innovative, high-performance systems that meet the evolving needs of scientists and industrial customers worldwide.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Systems Architect to help shape the future of electron microscopy.
In this role, you will take end-to-end technical ownership of complex system architectures, from translating customer needs into technical requirements to guiding development and ensuring validated system performance.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, influence technology roadmaps and contribute to the development of next-generation electron microscopy platforms, modules and analytical solutions.
This is an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise, systems thinking and technical leadership in an environment where innovation directly supports scientific discovery.
Key Responsibilities
Lead system architecture: Define and develop system architectures for advanced electron microscopy platforms, modules and accessories, ensuring technical feasibility, scalability and performance.
Translate requirements: Convert customer and market needs into system specifications, architecture concepts and functional requirements for individual modules and engineering teams.
Provide technical leadership: Guide cross-functional teams across systems, electrical, mechanical and software engineering throughout the development process.
Shape technology strategy: Contribute to long-term technical roadmaps, identify emerging technologies and drive innovation in system design.
Optimize system performance: Apply modeling, simulation and Design of Experiments (DoE) to improve resolution, image quality, throughput, reliability and cost.
Drive project definition: Collaborate with Product Managers, Project Leaders and technical specialists to establish project scope, objectives and development priorities.
Support technical stakeholders: Provide expertise to R&D, Manufacturing, Service, Marketing and Sales teams, including resolving technical challenges and supporting customer interactions.
Improve development efficiency: Promote technology reuse across product lines, address component obsolescence and continuously improve engineering processes.
Ensure technical quality: Support system integration, verification and validation to achieve predictable, reproducible and reliable performance.
What Makes You a Great Fit
Education and Experience
MSc or PhD in Physics, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
5+ years of experience in complex high-tech product development involving hardware and software systems.
Proven experience in system architecture, systems engineering or multidisciplinary product development, ideally within electron microscopy, ion microscopy or similarly sophisticated scientific instrumentation.
Technical Expertise
Strong understanding of system-level design and integration across hardware, software and mechanical engineering.
Experience with requirements engineering, system modeling and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies or tools.
Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills, with experience in system performance optimization.
Ability to lead technical discussions, make architecture decisions and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Knowledge of electron microscopy technologies and related applications is a strong advantage.
Communication and Collaboration
Excellent written and spoken English; Czech language skills are an advantage or a willingness to learn.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
A proactive, results-oriented mindset, with curiosity, adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Ability to influence and motivate others while working collaboratively in an international R&D environment.
What We Offer
Flexible working hours to support your work-life balance.
25 days of vacation plus 5 sick days per year.
Financial benefits: Annual bonus, pension contribution, and preferential rates on life and health insurance.
Discounted mobile plans for you and your family.
Free MultiSport card.
Meal allowance and company canteen, with complimentary fresh fruit or vegetables daily.
Modern workplace facilities: Relaxation zones, on-site gym, outdoor sports area and massages in the building.
Friendly company culture: Company rock band, sports teams and social activities.
