Postdoctoral Researcher in Biological Mass Spectrometry

Location Department of Pharmacology, Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3QT We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to work iunder the supervision of Professors Ben Davis and Shabaz Mohammad, to carry out research into developing mass spectrometric strategies for Protein-Biomolecule interactions as part of a Wellcome Trust-funded collaborative grant You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities, adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols, and test hypotheses and analyse scientific data. You will be expected to contribute ideas for new research projects, develop ideas for generating research income, present detailed research proposals to senior researchers and collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers, lectures and posters. You should have a relevant PhD/DPhil in Chemistry, Chemical Biology or Biochemistry (or be close to completion), together with: practical experience with common fragmentation approaches utilised in the field of proteomics; the ability to carry out analytical procedures that are applied for proteome characterisation to a high degree of precision; able to analyse quantitative proteomic data with a degree of statistical rigour using common freely available software packages; proficiency in handling large datasets including bioinformatics and biostatistics; and knowledge of complementary structural and biophysical methods. Specialist knowledge in the discipline, proven ability to manage academic research activities and previous experience of contributing to publications and presentations are all essential.
