City of Hope's Electron Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy Core in Duarte, California supports cryo-EM sample vitrification and imaging alongside conventional TEM and SEM services. The core runs FEI Tecnai TEMs fitted with cryo-transfer holders and cryo-stages that allow frozen specimens to be imaged below minus 170 degrees Celsius. A fully automated Vitrobot plunge-freezer is used to prepare vitrified grids for single-particle cryo-EM and cryo-tomography.
